In a significant stride toward addressing environmental concerns in Indonesia, a diverse coalition of community groups convened to form what was initially known as the Muslims Congress for Sustainable Indonesia. This gathering laid the foundation for MOSAIC—Muslims for Shared Action on Climate Impact—a groundbreaking initiative aimed at harnessing the collective power of the Muslim community to tackle climate issues. MOSAIC’s establishment marked a crucial moment, reflecting the intersection of Islamic values and environmental stewardship, and underscored the urgency of climate action in Indonesia.
Members of this influential coalition include notable organizations such as LPBI NU, MLH Muhammadiyah, the Republika newspaper, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and Purpose Climate Lab. Together, they’ve embarked on a mission to empower the ummah (community) to spearhead sustainable changes and address the escalating climate crisis that threatens their homeland.

Tasked with shaping the branding for MOSAIC, we at MostlyHarmless approached this challenge with a commitment to encapsulate the core values and aspirations of its diverse members. Through a series of focused group discussions involving key stakeholders from the coalition, we developed a branding strategy that resonates with both the Islamic principles and the environmental ethos of the initiative.
Our branding drew inspiration from the rich tapestry of Islamic culture and the breathtaking natural landscapes of Indonesia, incorporating elements that highlight the pressing issues of climate change. This comprehensive branding was meticulously deployed across all platforms of the movement, including during a pivotal convention where the Vice President of Indonesia addressed the impacts of climate change. His endorsement of the establishment of a climate solution movement across Islamic groups was a significant endorsement that echoed through our branding, amplifying the message and the mission of MOSAIC.
As MOSAIC continues to drive forward with its initiatives, the foundational branding by MostlyHarmless remains a critical asset, guiding the movement in its mission to foster sustainable practices and promote ecological responsibility across Indonesia. In this journey, MostlyHarmless is proud to contribute not only as a creator of a visual identity but as a strategic partner in the global fight against climate change, demonstrating the power of thoughtful branding in the world of environmental activism.
