Empowering Climate Leadership: The Bengkel Hijrah Iklim Initiative

In the vibrant archipelago of Indonesia, a groundbreaking initiative, Bengkel Hijrah Iklim, is making strides by empowering young Muslims to become leaders in tackling the country’s climate challenges. This innovative program goes beyond traditional education; it is a beacon of inspiration and action, encouraging participants to enact tangible climate solutions within their communities.

At MostlyHarmless, we were tasked with developing a branding strategy that would resonate deeply with the initiative’s goals and its audience. Our design approach was meticulously crafted to blend the rich heritage of Islamic culture with the pressing themes of climate change, all while incorporating a distinctly Indonesian flavor.

The visual identity we created utilizes earth tone pastels—soft, approachable colors that are modern yet timeless, appealing to a youthful audience while conveying a sense of calm and resilience. These choices reflect the tranquility and balance often found in Islamic art, which we paired with dynamic elements that symbolize the urgency of environmental action.

Visual Identity

Artistically, the design integrates motifs from traditional Indonesian textiles and patterns, celebrating the nation’s diverse cultural tapestry. This local touch not only fosters a stronger connection with the participants but also pays homage to Indonesia’s unique environmental landscapes—from its lush rainforests to its expansive marine biodiversity.

Furthermore, the design subtly incorporates elements that highlight climate change issues relevant to Indonesia, such as rising sea levels and deforestation. These elements are woven into the overall aesthetic in a way that tells a story of both urgency and hope.

MostlyHarmless’s contribution to Bengkel Hijrah Iklim extends into how the branding encourages engagement. By marrying Islamic artistic principles with environmental and local cultural themes, we’ve created a branding strategy that is not just visually striking but also immensely meaningful and motivating. It’s designed to resonate with young leaders, inspiring them with a sense of duty and possibility.

The positive feedback from stakeholders and participants has been a testament to the power of thoughtful branding. The visual identity not only aligns with the initiative’s values but also amplifies its message, inspiring action and participation. As we continue to witness the impacts of climate change, the role of tailored, culturally conscious initiatives like Bengkel Hijrah Iklim becomes ever more critical. At MostlyHarmless, we are proud to contribute to this vital movement, helping forge a path towards a sustainable and resilient future through strategic and impactful design.
